On 20th November 2024, whānau, hapū, iwi, and professionals from the cultural and heritage sectors came together for a wānanga focused on resilience, recovery, and preparation following Cyclone Gabrielle.
Highlights of the day included a case study on resilience in Porangahau and surrounds, cultural mapping insights, and panel sessions with Heritage NZ Pouhere Taonga, Te Papa, and Archives New Zealand, offering valuable resources and advice for cultural preservation.
The wānanga provided an invaluable opportunity to strengthen connections, share stories of resilience, and explore how we can better prepare as communities.
The kōrero and reflections shared throughout the day underscored the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in building a more resilient future for marae communities.
