Chris Bryant-Toi (Ngāti Porou) oversees the preservation and management of taonga, or archival material and artefacts, held within the care of Te Kura i Awarua. The application of taonga to develop collaborative new rangahau research outcomes excites Chris, as a practising contemporary Māori artist, educator, curator, and advocate. He is proactively involved with kaupapa taonga and kaupapa toi projects, from the post-cyclone restoration of Te Ara o Tāwhaki Marae through to the modern indigenising of facilities at the Te Aho a Māui – EIT Hawke’s Bay Campus.
