E ngā ringa rangahau, ngā ringa tōhau nui o Ngāti Kahungunu

Haere mai rā, piki mai rā, nau mai ki tō tātou wānanga whakahirahira!

Hoki mai ki Ahuriri, ki Te Ara o Tāwhaki, ki Te Ūranga Waka, ki Te Aho a Māui – e tū nei hei pou herenga wānanga i roto i tō tātou rohe.

Ko konei tātau wānanga ai, hei whakapakari i te rangahau, hei whakaohooho i te hunga rangatahi, me te whakapūmau i te reo me ngā tikanga tuku iho.

This conference opportunity run by the Te Kura I Awarua Rangahau Māori Research Centre aims to celebrate Ngāti Kahungunu researchers engaged in mahi rangahau and in research.  “Nō Ngāti Kahungunu, mō Ngāti Kahungunu”  – koirā te karanga!

From 9-11 July at Te Aho a Māui | Eastern Institute of Technology, this conference is an opportunity to network, to present research, to share expertise, and to honour the mātauranga that you do and the research that supports Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi and its hapū and whānau.

We are interested in YOU as a Ngāti Kahungunu researcher. From the older mātanga to the fledgling ‘pī ka rere’ – we all need to sit in the same room and develop the networks and learn the lessons that support our ‘capability’ as kairangahau and researchers.

But more so, we need to sit and develop Ngāti Kahungunu research ‘capacity’. We need to inspire the next generation of the ‘ringa rangahau o Ngāti Kahungunu’ network and support the connections and the projects that will promote the development and the wellbeing of Ngāti Kahungunu.

The full programme for the Ringa Rangahau Research Conference 2025 will be made available closer to the event. You’ll be able to download the programme as a PDF or scan the QR code on your goody bag at the event to access it directly.

This is peer-reviewed and quality assured conference. We are interested in whatever branch of research you are involved in. Please download and submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) form. Ensure your form includes your full name, email, phone number, and research title in the header for accurate identification and attribution.

The Auaka Tumutumu Symposium, held in August 2023, was a significant follow-up to the Mārama Project’s inaugural symposium in 2021. This four-day event focused on advancing the understanding and practices surrounding the preservation of Māori taonga (treasures), particularly within the archives of Ngāti Kahungunu.
The Mārama: Manuscripts with Memory Symposium, held in 2021, marked the beginning of the Mārama Project’s efforts to bring together experts, archivists, and whānau to explore the rich histories contained within Māori manuscript collections.
On 20th November 2024, whānau, hapū, iwi, and professionals from the cultural and heritage sectors came together for a wānanga focused on resilience, recovery, and preparation following Cyclone Gabrielle.
In June 2024, our research centre proudly supported the Te Pūranga wānanga workshops, hosted at the EIT Marae in collaboration with Vicki-Anne Heikell and her team from the Alexander Turnbull Library, alongside other key cultural and heritage agencies.
